Hate speech has led to a series of coordinated attacks in Hungary in 2008 and 2009 leaving six unarmed Roma people, among them a five-year old boy, dead, and many more seriously wounded.
The major of Budapest appointed Mr. Gyorgy Dorner, an actor, to be the new director of Uj Szinhaz (New Theatre) without any consultation. This ended a thirteen year era of solid success marked by the former director Istvan Marta. The new director is well-known of the followings: dubbing American movies into Hungarian for decades and nurturing close ties to the Hungarian far-right-wing movements. His fellow candidate was Mr. Istvan Csurka who established the Hungarian far-right-wing movement in the early 1990\'s. The candidates sought to end the era of \'degenerated art\' in the Budapest art scene. One of the last plays in New Theatre was Thomas Mann\'s Magic Mountain.
